Aishwarya Sridhar created history in wildlife photographer award- 2020. Most important, she became the first Indian woman to win the Wildlife Photographer award.

‘Lights of passion….’

Aishwarya Sridhar won this prestigious award at the wildlife photographer of the year 2020. Her photo titled, ‘Lights of passion’ made possible to achieve the title mark indeed.

Lights of passion is a picture of a tree, well-lighted with thousands of fireflies around. Similarly, it resembles the dreamlike galaxy round the tree like the stars in the sky.

Category of the picture….

This picture, ‘lights of passion’ won the title under the Behavior-Invertebrates category. Especially, this category deals with the stills, that reveal the most memorable behavior of the multitude of tiny animals or insects. Mainly, these animals or insects are without backbone that live whether on land, in the air or in water.

Earlier, there were 50,000 entries from over 80 countries across the world to the contest. But, the shortlisted are 100 images only. Finally, she won the award for her photograph, ‘lights of Passion’ in the Behavior-Invertebrates category.

During a trek, Aishwarya walked in search of a better shot for two hours. Finally, she reached a tree with full of fireflies. Thousands of fireflies covered it in gold and formed a visible light.

She captured 27 images of it and well-combined them using focus stacking software later. Highlighting the sonority of this scene, she described the photo on the website of National History Museum, the organizer, London.

She decided to click fireflies last year, but hadn’t planned any frame specifically.

Location of the picture….

Aishwarya Sridhar, a wildlife photographer, hailed from Panvel, Mumabi. She shot the photo while trekking in Bhandadhara, Maharashtra, in June 2019. This picture, ‘lights of Passion’ put on display on Oct 16, 2020.

When Aishwarya was 14, she won the Sanctuary Asia Young Naturalist Award. She also bagged the Princess Diana award meant for the young talents who bring positive change in the society.

A big honor…

Aishwarya delighted and said that her dream came true when her name announced during the ceremony. Besides, she stated that it was a great honor for her to receive this award. Winning this award in the Adult category made this young photographer the happiest ever.

Aishwarya is the first besides the youngest girl to win this title from India so far. She is not only a wildlife photographer, writer but also a film maker by profession.

In conclusion, by winning the title, this young photographer Aishwarya Sridhar made India proud.
