Does virtual teaching substitutes Traditional classroom teaching? : Virtual and traditional class room teaching are both the different instruments to do the same job. Both, Usually aims at bringing desirable changes in the child through teaching the particular subject.
When the first online / virtual teaching started
Technology development brought vital changes in all the fields of the society. It made work easy. When the internet put it’s foot and popularized in 1990′ s, it brought a lot of changes.
As, the same internet came into the class room teaching, the structure of the class room is changed.
Further, the online/virtual teaching trying to break the walls of the class room. And questioning the traditional classroom and school setting.
Moreover, Virtual teaching confined the teaching learning process as filling the subject into the students minds.
But, teaching learning process requires love and affection between the teacher and students for fruitful results.

As Aristotle said class room decides the future of the nation. It says that class room is not only the place for transforming information but also gives training for human, moral, ethical, social values in the children.
So that, class room should be livelihood, which questions the virtual teaching. Because for inculcating above values in the children interaction between the teacher-student and student-student should take place.
What is virtual teaching
“Virtual class room is an imagined class room. In which, live interaction takes place between teacher and student in teaching learning process with the electronic gadgets”.
Usually, in virtual class room also teacher teaches. But, he/she is far from the students. So there is no scope for physical interaction between teacher and student.
Further more, teacher also clarify the individual doubts of the students but no chance for fruitful discussion among the students.
In addition to this, in virtual teaching also teacher teaches effectively by using Teaching Learning Materials, virtual images, and videos for explaining abstract ideas.
Advantages of Virtual teaching
- Teacher teaches to the large number of students at a time.
- Virtual teaching saves time and money.
- Virtual teaching gives student and teacher a world wide exposure.
- Online virtual teaching enables the teacher to show and explain some non concrete concepts, which makes the students to feel difficulty.
- Infra structure for class room and school is not required for the management of schools.
- Accessed to everyone equally from any where to any time.
Disadvantages of Virtual teaching
- Virtual teaching ignores the discipline of the Student.
- No control of the teacher on Students.
- Requires Electronic gadgets like smart phone, computer/laptop for teacher and student for teaching and learning, which is expensive.
- It demarcate the teacher-student relationship.
- Continuous watching of mobile and computer screens adversely affect on students eyes.
- Class room atmosphere becomes artificial.
Virtual teaching v/s Traditional class room teaching
Further, Virtual teaching confines the role of teacher as knowledge transmitter. “The ultimate goal of Education is all-round development of the child”.
All round development means physical, mental, emotional, social development of the student. Where, Virtual class room doesn’t give chance for that.
Co-curricular and extra curricular activities plays vital role in all-round development of the student. But in Virtual class room no scope for this.
So, Traditional class room and school setting is needed for fruitful result. That is what we are expecting from the teaching learning process.
Does virtual teaching replaces Traditional class room teaching?
Educationists opinion on Virtual and traditional class room teaching:
Online classes are not effective in educating Students. Most of the educationists obviously says virtual teaching does not substitute traditional class room teaching.
Online virtual teaching couldn’t bring desired result among the children, this is the most common opinion of renowned educationists and psychologists.
“Technology or any thing that creates the gap between the students and teacher effect adversely on the society in the form of anti social activities”.
So many anti social activities are happening in the society. When we open a daily news paper we are observing the same news on the front pages of news papers.
Not only un educated people but also most of the educated people also committing for these anti social activities.

As, rapid change occurred in the society and gap took place between the student and teacher on comparing to ancient days of education system, all these were happening.
So, any thing that creates gap between student and teacher should be minimized.
Regular traditional class room teaching , love and affection between teacher and student promotes social, human and moral values among the children.
As the opinion of educationists and psychologists , we have to use virtual teaching as the additional tool of learning in the higher and distance learning only.
From, all this discussion we conclude that, Virtual teaching doesn’t substitute traditional class room teaching,. So, especially at school level it’s not suggestable more.
