Cyber criminals don’t leave WhatsApp either : Criminal tendencies are also changing as technology grows. Cyber criminals are choosing innovative ways to cheat the people. we have been witnessing in our day-to-day events that someone is cheated. Many people became victims and cheated through the several modes of cyber phishing like Voice phishing, email phishing, Clone phishing, Vishing, Smishing etc.

Many WhatsApp apps crashed in one day!

Cyber criminals have changed their route for cyber Phishing. They have now chosen the apps. They are activating WhatsApp on their phones using other people’s phone numbers and committing financial crimes through them.

In this connection hundreds of WhatsApp apps crashed in Hyderabad in a single day on 29th September,2020 as a part of this kind of cyber attack.

Celebrities are also among the victims

In the list of the victims there are some celebrities too. They can’t even escape from this new fraud. Cybercrime police investigating the matter.

Used to be a ‘phone’ once….. now is WhatsApp …

Cyber criminals are invisible to victims. They just lure you with calls and messages to beat you up. For this, these cyber criminals used phone calls and SMS once. In recent times, cyber criminals have heard of apps that allow police to catch people based on their phone numbers and Calls. For this, Many of the cyber criminals and terrorists are choosing WhatsApp since the app is ‘end-to-end encrypted.’

‘Smart ‘ consumption increases …

The use of smartphones increased rapidly. With this, cyber criminals have recently started WhatsApp takeover scams.

After installing the WhatsApp on their phone cyber criminals use a phone number from a series for verification. With this, the verification code goes to that number.

Immediately they either call or text requesting the person with that number to send back the code stating they sent it by mistake.(these are also numbers obtained at a crossroads)
When the recipient of the six-digit verification code tells the cybercriminal ,his WhatsApp account will be transferred to the cybercriminal’s phone. That immediately causes WhatsApp to crash on the actual person’s phone.

What happens if WhatsApp is taken over?

When WhatsApp is taken over, the cyber criminal changes the security settings. He adds a hint question along with the verification code. With this, the original owner of WhatsApp is once again tries and fails to install the app on his phone.

Through this WhatsApp the cyber criminal continues his attempts to beat the ignorant by making WhatsApp calls or sending messages. Thus, cyber criminals are using the series of Phone numbers in a row. In this context, their WhatsApp accounts from the same area will crash all at once.

Hard to restore …

It is difficult to restore a WhatsApp hacked account on the original owner’s phone. The process should be completed by writing a formal letter to that organization. This will take at least 45 days. To avoid being exposed to such scams, the verification codes for phones should not be sent to anyone. If WhatsApp crashes once the data in that account will be lost.

It’s better not to share any vital information with anyone to avoid such frauds.
