The Earth Shot Prize: A new prize is similar to the Nobel Prize : Undoubtedly the Nobel Prize is a great prize. A few persons get this prize for their outstanding contributions in various fields around the world. Along with the Nobel, there will also be a cash prize of crores. The scientists, writers and those who fight for peace are getting this prize.
Similarly, Prince William recently brought out The Earth Shot Prize. This is equal to the Nobel Prize. It has announced like this. The Prize will give to persons, who work for earth and environmental protection.
Why Earth Shot Prize?
Without a doubt earth is facing so many disasters at this time. Especially humans brought
these disasters to the earth. Sometimes brought by nature also. They include Plastic waste on land, toxic gases in the air, toxic chemicals in ponds and rivers. Particularly urban areas global warming is threatening the species. That is why environmentalists and nature lovers have been fighting over these issues for many years.
Many people have joined hands to protect the environment. Prince William went one step further in this regard. He said as below about the ‘Earth Shot Prize’. We give this prize annually to the eligible persons. The eligible persons must find a solution to environmental problems and bring about change around the world.
Reward of earth shot prize
Unlike Nobel Prize, the fund for this Prize set up in association with The Royal Foundation. The Royal Foundation is a charitable organization. The fund is 50 million pounds (approximately Rs 476 crore).
Categories
Indeed there are five categories in this Prize.
- Conserving and restoring nature
- Purifying the air
- Restoring the oceans
- Building a waste-free world, and
- Balancing the environment.
Obviously, five people who excel in above five areas will be selected. And awarded an ‘Earth Shot Prize’ in each year. Each of get a million pounds (approximately Rs. 9.5 crore).
What do organizers say?
Organizers say they have bring out the ‘Earth Shot Prize’ for the below aim. The aim is to bring the earth and the environment back to normal in the next ten years. It also said, these provide 50 solutions to environmental problems.
Who will select the winners?
Likewise Nobel, a council set up to select the winners of the ‘Earth Shot Prize’. Among them
are The Queen of Jordan Queen Rania Al Abdullah, Australian actress Cate Blanchett, a former chief of the UNO Meteorological Department Christiana Figers.
