Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite launched

Xiaomi has launched a new variant of the Mi 8 phone in China that it is calling the Mi 8 Lite. The Mi 8 Lite sits below the Mi 8 SE in Xiaomi’s Mi 8 phone line-up and will be available in as many as three configurations, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, 6GB RAM and 64GB storage and 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The USP of the Mi 8 Lite is its unique gradient finish, 24MP front camera and 3,350mAh battery. There is also lots and lots of AI thrown in.

The Mi 8 Lite uses more or less the same materials in construction as the Mi 8 meaning the Mi 8 Lite is also carved out of a significant chunk of glass. The Mi 8 Lite has a metallic centre-piece that joins the front and back. And it’s bezel-less. Well, almost. And it has a notch like the iPhone X. Contrary to the Mi 8 and its other variants, the Mi 8 Lite packs a smaller notch and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

Unlike the Mi 8, the Mi 8 Lite has glass back that can reflect light differently depending on how you look at it. The gradient finish of the Mi 8 Lite would remind you of many Huawei and Honor phones like the P20 Pro and the Honor 10. The Mi 8 Lite also has a dual camera module on the back that looks a lot like the one on-board the Honor 10.

XIAOMI MI 8 LITE: SPECS AND FEATURES

The Mi 8 Lite has a 6.26-inch full-screen full-HD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. It comes with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB storage. The dual-SIM phone runs Android Oreo-based MIUI software. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack which means the same connectivity port — USB Type-C — will be used for audio out, charging and data syncing. The phone is backed by a 3,350mAh battery.

In terms of optics, the Mi 8 Lite seemingly packs the same dual rear cameras as the Mi 8 SE, consisting of one 12-megapixel sensor and another 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing. On the front, the Mi 8 Lite comes with a 24-megapixel camera that is also capable of shooting AI-based portrait selfies.

XIAOMI MI 8 LITE: PRICE
